Kobudo
Kobudo literally means ‘Old Warrior Way’ and should correctly be termed ‘Buki’. However, modern day systems have utilised the word ‘Kobudo’ to mean weapons study and training.
The Martial Arts Education Centre Kobudo instructors are all members of the Matayoshi Kobudo Kodokan International which is the governing body of the Matayoshi Kodokan in Okinawa. Weapons taught initially are the Bo, Sai and Tunkwa (or Tonfa) followed by the Nun Chaku. More experienced practitioners will also learn the Ieku (oar) and Nunti. Later the Kama, Kuwa, Timbei and Suruchin are also learnt.
Kobudo practice incorporates ‘Hojo Undo’ (basic exercises), Kata (patterns) and Bunkai (applications) along with Kumi Waza (fighting techniques).
