On Sunday March 22nd the Martial Arts Education Centre held their inaugural Kick-a-thon to raise money for the new Childrens Ward at the Peel Health Campus. About half the students took part raising money by getting sponsorship for performing a number of kicks.
The juniors were expected to perform 500 kicks and the seniors 1000.
The juniors went off first at 9.30am and did an excellent job. After 250 they were permitted a short drinks break but then it was back into it. They were all done by 10.10am. Lollies were then handed out courtesy of Mark Stafford Sensei
At 10.30am it was the turn of the adults. 50 kicks with each leg for 5 different kicks meant they had performed 500 kicks when it was time for a well deserved drinks break to replace the sweat that seem to be oozing rapidly out of the pores! Then back into it for the last 500 by which time many of us were feeling a little bit buggered to say the least!
And after the 1000 I added another 5 per leg to make 1010 kicks as Mark Sensei had been sponsored for the extra 10 so everyone did them! Then, for some very strange reason, Mark Sensei and Ashley Sensei decided to perform another 250 kicks each. I decided to watch!
Now that all the forms and money is in it looks like our final total is a whopping $8541. Thanks to all the students who made such a fantastic effort. There are a couple of people who deserve a specail mention. Mark Stafford Sensei raised over $2250 on his own and Ashley Johnson Sensei managed around $1700. A big thank you to these 2 guys.
In the junior section Ayla Hayes raised $300 and Casey Withnell $220 - well done to both of you as well and thank you.
To everybody else who raised whatever amount it does not matter. Every dollar goes towards the total. As I said at the beginning of this, our first kick-a-thon, if everybody raised just $50 each we should do more than $5000 so I am really proud of everyones efforts.
